Wheat grass can help prevent cancer

Good morning friends.  They said that cancer is the killer of the decade.  Maybe that can be true.  We never know when it will hit us.  But it’s always been said that prevention is better than cure.  Did you know that wheat

There are the factors that raise the cholesterol level.  These are smoking, caffeine, stress, pills, refined sugar, food additives, environmental pollutants and high-fat diets .So we have to eat wisely.  You may take light-meat turkey has only 67 mg of cholesterol; dark-meat, 75 mg; and chopped turkey liver (used as gravy), 830 mg.

Some ask if  wheat grass a fad?  Wheat grass is popular because it’s the easiest way to correct internal imbalance.  A part of the cereal grass family like barley, oats and rye, it has high alkaline. Loaded with protein (more than chicken), Vitamin A (higher than spinach), calcium (more than broccoli), among others, it contains 17 amino acids, 13 vitamins and 10 minerals. Its chlorophyll, which I have dubbed “green blood,” immediately gives your own blood a natural “chelation” effect by drawing out heavy metals (which can cause cancer).  Call Easy Phamax for information. Some said that their body resistant is very weak that’s why they always catch colds.  Here is a good remedy.  Take two glasses of lukewarm water before breakfast (after brushing your teeth). Remember to “swish” in your mouth two teaspoons of fresh virgin coconut/olive/sesame oil. This will draw out all the bacteria from your mouth.

After 10 minutes, spit it out. Drink two tablespoons of virgin coconut oil. Take one cup of wheat grass juice.  Take two tablespoons of fresh Kefir (super probiotic yoghurt-type drink).  Take three tablespoons of ACAI berry concentrate.  Have a fresh plate of fruits and old-fashioned oatmeal without sugar.  Take five servings of salad/vegetables. Have fish/chicken once a day (preferably organic). Eat red/brown rice.  Exercise three times a week.

You can  take some supplements like one multivitamin/mineral supplement.- 1,000 mg Vitamin C (two times daily)- 500 mg of super mushrooms Multi 5- One ampalaya capsule daily- One moringa capsule daily Drink 10-12 glasses of water.  Call World of Wellness, tel. 332-3864.

How about  those who have a stress?  Most of us all do have a stress .  There  is the best anti-stress regimen.  You should  learn to relax. Give yourself quiet time. Balance work with pleasure and load up on extra B complex on highly stressful days. Pray and meditate. And learn how to laugh.  – Cory Quirino

Pay Attention to What You Eat

“Diet is more important than women realize.  It has as much of an effect on health as cigarettes do.” –Marion Nestle, PH.D., Professor and Chair of Nutrition and Food Studies at New York University in New York City.

Too many women obsess about calories but pay little attention to the nutritional quality of what they eat,  often avoiding certain foods or entire food groups.  For example, “Many women believe that all fat is bad,” says William B. Grant, a researcher in Newport News, Virginia.  “But foods like nuts, avocados and olive oil contain monounsaturated fats, which should be part of a healthy diet.”

What should you eat?  A good daily foundation is at least five servings of fruits and veggies, about six servings of whole grains and three smell servings of lean protein.  And try making more meals yourself.  “Many women feel they don’t have time to prepare meals from scratch,”  says Andrew Weil, M.D., coauthor of The Healthy kitchen (Knopf). “But you can cook fast, easy dishes at home.”  Need ideas?  Search for low-fat recipes at epicurious.com

20  Calcim.  To stay slim, twentysomethings tend to cut out calcium-rich dairy products, and omission that sets you up for osteoporosis later.  Aim for 1,000 mg of calcium daily—a cup of low-fat yogurt contains about 450 mg

30  Folic acid.  Many women start trying to get pregnant at this age, and folic acid is a key nutrient that protects babies from certain birth defects.  You need 400 meg daily from foods like beans, spinach and strawberries.

40  Fiber.  Getting 25 g of fiber a day (from whole grains, apples, pears) can help lower your cholesterol, which may be edging higher at this age. –Sunny Sea Gold

Act now to make a difference

“Women today live by the myth that they can clean everything up after the age of 40.  So at 40, they walk into my office like it’s a warranty station and say, “Here I am! Fix me!” –Pamela Peeke, M.D., Assistant  Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland in Baltimore and Author of Fight Fat After Forty (Viking Press).

The average 30-years-old has an unprecedented chance to live to 100—if she takes care of herself.  “But what’s relevant to her now,” says Dr. Peeke, “is sliding into a pair of size 2 jeans every morning, finding the love of her life or scoring an excellent career.”  True, you can develop heart disease, osteoporosis and cancer long before you’re a centenarian.  But you’ll lower your risk fo all of these disorders by following one simple prescription:  “Avoid smoking, eat well and exercise,” says Dr. Mosca.  “All the fancy research we can come up with is never going to change that.”  (Sound easier said than done?

Fluorescent Lighting is Harmful to Human Health

Not modern fluorescent lighting.  Known as compact fluorescent lamp (CPL), these lamps have much improved color quality, plus they are roughly four times more efficient than incandescent lamps.

The reservations against using fluorescent lighting may have come from its mercury content.  However, today’s CFLs have less than 4 mg of mercury per bulb.  This amount is “about one-fifth that found in the average watch battery and less than 100th found in a typical amalgam dental filling.”  In short, the amount of mercury is CFL is small enough to be considered as a significant health threat.

Another problem that has been eliminated by CFL is “the annoying flicker and hum from fluorescents that use electronic ballasts.”  People with light sensitivity conditions need not be alarmed as it has been concluded by different studies done in the United States and the United Kingdom that “no fluorescent lighting technology presents anywhere near the high levels of UV (ultraviolet) danger to light sensitive persons that sunlight presents.”  In short, if it has been awhile since you have tried fluorescent lighting, you may want to give these bulbs another try.

Anti-depressant reduces effect of breast cancer drugs: Study

Good morning friends.  It’s a good thing to know that anti-depressant reduces effect of breast cancer drugs.  Women taking a particular anti-depressant along with breast cancer drugs are more likely to die of the disease, doctors have warned.

Researchers from the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and the University of Toronto found that anti-depressant ‘Seroxat’ interferes with breast cancer drug ‘tamoxifen’ and severe its beneficiary effects on the patients.

However, other anti-depressants did not have the same effect, according to the study.

The findings, appeared in the British Medical Journal, have major implications as most breast cancer patients also suffer from depression.

For the study, the team looked at 2,430 breast cancer patients aged 66 and above, who were being treated between 1993 and 2005.

All were taking tamoxifen and one of five other anti-depressants, including Seroxat, the most commonly prescribed. Over the next 2.4 years, 374 died of breast cancer, the Daily Mail reported.

The researchers found that those taking Seroxat were far more likely to die from breast cancer and slightly more likely to die from any other cause.

“In conclusion, our findings indicate that the choice of anti-depressant can significantly affect survival in women receiving tamoxifen for breast cancer,” said the report.

The authors, however, stressed that women should not stop taking tamoxifen and that their study does not imply that Seroxat causes or influences the course of breast cancer.

“This is simply a situation in which [Seroxat] impairs the effectiveness of tamoxifen,” they said. – Indian Express

Regular exercise can help keep anxiety at bay

Regular exercise can significantly reduce symptoms of anxiety in patients with chronic illness, a new University of Georgia study shows.

In the study, published in the Feb. 22 edition of the Archives of Internal Medicine, researchers analyzed the results of 40 randomized clinical trials involving nearly 3,000 patients with a variety of medical conditions.

They found that, on average, patients who exercised regularly reported a 20 percent reduction in anxiety symptoms compared to those who did not exercise.

“Our findings add to the growing body of evidence that physical activities such as walking or weight lifting may turn out to be the best medicine that physicians can prescribe to help their patients feel less anxious,” said lead author Matthew Herring, a doctoral student in the department of kinesiology, part of the UGA College of Education.

The patients in the studies suffered from a variety of conditions, including heart disease, multiple sclerosis, cancer and chronic pain from arthritis. Indian Express

Apricot kernels may help fight cancer

Good morning friends.  After reading one article, you will be convince when you know the thing.  Apricot kernels may help fight cancer.

A man diagnosed with a rare, incurable lymphoma claims that he has been able to cheat death for 13 years by eating apricot kernels.

Paul Reid insists that the ‘cancer-killing’ properties in the kernels, rich in vitamin B17, and a strict vegetarian diet have cured him, despite the doctors telling him he would live for just five more years.

“I don’t think my journey has been unscientific, it’s just that there’s been no science in a big way applied to it,” the Age quoted him as saying.

He added: “We’re not immortal, but I believe I’ll be healthy from taking this direction.”

However, health experts are worried that Reid is among the growing number of cancer patients who are putting their faith in ‘anti-cancer’ diets promoted by alternative health practitioners, which may not always work.

Amanda Hordern, director of the Cancer Council Victoria’s information and support helpline, said: “I’ve spoken to people who have mortgaged their houses looking for this wonder cure. I’ve heard of 20,000-dollar retreats where people go away and are taught how to have alternative diets that are unproven.

People have asked us for financial assistance to pay for funerals because they’ve lost absolutely everything in pursuing the elusive hope and it hasn’t worked.”

However, cancer patients like Reid argue there is no harm undergoing an organic treatment.

He said: “So what if there’s no scientific proof? What has a person to lose by going on an organic diet?” he asks. “I don’t think my journey has been unscientific, it’s just that there’s been no science in a big way applied to it.” – The Times of India

New drug to help fight Alzheimer’s

Good morning everyone.  Alzheimer’s is usually the ill of the people who gets old.  No one will immediately notice that they are having that problem.  Others may only think that because of oldness, they are just forgetting things.  But we have to be aware of that with our folks.

A new study has revealed that rapamycin, a drug that keeps the immune system from attacking transplanted organs, may help fight Alzheimer’s disease.

Researchers from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio found that rapamycin rescued learning and memory deficits in a mouse model of Alzheimer’s.

Senior author, Salvatore Oddo, assistant professor in the Department of Physiology of the UT Health Science Center San Antonio, said that the study offers the first evidence that the drug is able to reverse Alzheimer’s-like deficits in an animal model.

The researchers also found that the drug also reduced lesions in the brains of the mice. The lesions are similar to those seen in the brains of people who died with Alzheimer’s.

“Our findings may have a profound clinical implication. Because rapamycin is a US Food and Drug Administration-approved drug, a clinical trial using it as an anti-Alzheimer’s disease therapy could be started fairly quickly,” said Oddo.

Last year three institutions, including the University of Texas’ Barshop Institute for Longevity and Aging Studies, announced that rapamycin extended the life span of aged research mice at each of the sites.

It was the first pharmacologic intervention shown to extend life in an animal model of aging. Rapamycin, a bacterial product first isolated in soil from the island Rapa Nui in the South Pacific, also is being tested in cancer research studies. Rapa Nui is commonly known as Easter Island and is distinguished by ancient monoliths with faces.

“While it remains to be determined whether our results obtained in mice could be translated in people, we are very excited as these findings may lead to a new therapeutic intervention to treat Alzheimer’s,” Oddo said.  – The Times of India

The study has been published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry .
